First Nature Farms: Turkeys

About the Turkeys

What makes a turkey certified organic?

The FOOD

Turkeys From day one and all through their lives, 100% of the food the turkeys eat must be organic. That's the rule! Every ingredient used in the turkey feed must be grown on land that uses no pesticides or chemical fertilizers and meets all the requirements for organic production. The farm that produces the crop must achieve the status of certified organic. The turkeys at First Nature Farms eat a balanced diet of wheat, peas, canola, oats, rye, soya, flax, sunflower, sesame and borage - all certified organic! They are also excellent grazers and live outside on the real earth. The certified organic pasture offers them a wide variety of greens, grubs and grasshoppers and the birds have the freedom to pick and choose.

The SPACE

Turkeys Organic regulations call for 80 square feet of space per bird. First Nature Farms uses a custom designed pen which is moved every week, offering each bird over 600 square feet of fresh grazing! Moving is a stressless time for the birds. As the pen slowly creeps forward to fresh pasture the turkeys simply walk along to their new ground followed by their shelters and roosts, water and feed. The process takes 2 - 5 minutes.

The HEALTH

Turkeys Medications, Antibiotics? Hormones? Insecticides?
NEVER! Regulations for certified organic production have a zero tolerance for any such products at any time in the animal's life!
The turkeys grown by First Nature Farms eat only wholesome foods, breath fresh air and enjoy the open free range. Disease and parasites have never been a problem. The low stress environment ensures the birds are naturally healthy.

The CERTIFICATE

Organic certification exists to protect the consumer. We are certified by PROPA (Peace River Organic Producers Assn.) and are members of COABC (Certified Organic Associations of British Columbia). the birds are naturally healthy.
